About Us

The Gay and Lesbian Welfare Association or GLWA began in 1984 as the Homosexual Community Welfare Service (HCWS) providing telephone counselling and information. Peer telephone counselling services has always remained the core focus of our activities.

The association's activities are supported by a volunteer management team which includes:

• Male Co-convenor
• Female Co-convenor
• Secretary and
  
• Treasurer.

The association's activities are driven by specialist committees that include:

• Finance Committee
• Information and Communication Technology Committee
• Training Committee
• Public Relations Committee
  
• Marketing Committee and
  
• Counsellors Committee.

A monthly Regular General Meeting (RGM), open to all members, is held on the secondTuesday of every month. You can check the next RGM date by looking at our calendar, click here.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association is normally held in October each year. This meeting includes:

• confirmation of the Management Committee for the coming year
• presentation and acceptance of the Annual and Financial Report
• memorial speech in rememberance of the Reverand Peter Allen
• presentation of Keystone Awards which is in memoriam of Reverand Ivor Holmes and
  
• presentation of life memberships.

The association runs twice yearly training programs for people wishing to become telephone counsellors. Contact us for more information on training dates.

Funding of the organisation relies heavily on individual donations, corporate sponsors, and our fundraising activities held throughout the year such as Big Gay Day, Pride, etc. If you wish to make an online donation now, click here.
